'Her gün ortalama altı kişi olay yerinde hayatını kaybetti'
The data for the period covering January-June by the Traffic Department of the General Directorate of Security reveals that a total of 313,868 traffic accidents occurred in the country, with 274,276 in urban areas and 39,592 in rural areas. Among these accidents, 129,362 resulted in injuries, and there were 958 fatal accidents where 1,125 people lost their lives on the spot. On average, 6 people lost their lives at the scene of the accident every day. Another category mentioned was accidents resulting in material damage, which accounted for 183,548 cases where parties agreed and prepared reports among themselves. The most common type of accident was recorded as "side collisions." The data also pointed out that driver error was the leading cause of accidents, with 141,331 incidents attributed to drivers, followed by pedestrians, passengers, and vehicles. The statistics further detailed the distribution of driver errors, highlighting instances like failure to adapt speed to traffic conditions, failure to give way at intersections, and not following lane discipline. The data also categorized accidents based on the types of vehicles involved, with motorcycles and cars being the most common types leading to accidents. Overall, the analysis underscores the significance of driver errors, particularly the disregard for speed limits and right of way rules, in contributing to the severity of traffic accidents.
