Murat Akagün, aged 49, was driving a vehicle with license plate VC 286 while under the influence of 220 milligrams of alcohol on Güzelyalı Street heading west, when he carelessly turned into Şehit Salih Özşehitoğlu Street, blocking the way of Oğuz Küpeli (E-47) who was driving the vehicle with license plate YC 954 from the opposite direction, resulting in a collision. Murat Akagün, who was injured in the accident, was taken to Lefkoşa Dr. Burhan Nalbantoğlu State Hospital. After treatment, he was placed under observation in the Surgical Ward. Legal proceedings have been initiated against Akagün for driving under the influence of alcohol and causing a traffic accident. The investigation is ongoing. Furthermore, another traffic accident occurred between the 2nd and 3rd kilometers of the Girne-Alsancak Ring Road around 03:00 on August 7, 2025. Selahattin Yağız, aged 37, was driving a vehicle with license plate YV 890 under the influence of 97 milligrams of alcohol when he carelessly entered the Girne American University roundabout, losing control of the steering wheel and veering off the left side of the road, crashing into steel barriers. As a result of the impact, the vehicle was thrown onto the sidewalk and then collided with an electrical panel before coming to a stop. While there were no injuries in the accident, legal action has been taken against Selahattin Yağız for driving under the influence of alcohol. The investigation is ongoing.
